Two under two means running two routines that are at completely different stages - a newborn who feeds around the clock and a toddler on one big nap. You cannot force them into the same timetable, but you can shape the day so they overlap where it counts and clash as little as possible.

The goal is not a perfect schedule. It is a repeatable shape to the day, with one protected window where both are asleep and you get to breathe.

A sample day

  • Morning: everyone up around the same time. Feed the baby, breakfast for the toddler. Starting the day together keeps the rest of it from drifting.
  • Mid-morning: baby's first nap while the toddler has focused play or a walk. Two hands free for one child is a small luxury - use it.
  • Midday: lunch, then aim the baby's nap to overlap the toddler's one big nap. This is the window worth protecting above all others.
  • Afternoon: a shorter baby nap, quiet activity for the toddler. Keep any late catnap short so bedtime holds.
  • Evening: a shared wind-down - bath, feed, stories - then the toddler down, and the baby not long after.

Overlap the naps

The single highest-value move is lining up the baby's midday nap with the toddler's. Even 45 minutes of both asleep resets the whole afternoon. Nudge the baby's morning wake-up or nap length by 15-20 minutes at a time until the midday windows meet.

Protect one overlap a day. Everything else can flex; that window is what keeps you standing.

Protect the toddler's nap

It is tempting to let the toddler's nap slide when the baby needs you, but an overtired toddler at 5pm is far harder than a slightly fussy baby at 3pm. Guard the toddler's sleep, and handle the baby around it.

Share the load, keep one record

With two adults, split by task or by time rather than by child, so nobody is permanently on the harder shift. And keep one shared log: when both children's feeds, naps and nappies live in the same place, whoever takes over can see the day at a glance instead of asking.

Where the app fits

The Multibaby app - a baby tracker for two under two - keeps each child on their own profile so a newborn's day and a toddler's day stay distinct, and shows both side by side so you can find - and protect - that midday overlap. Voice logging means you can capture a feed one-handed while the toddler pulls at your leg, and the predictions adjust as the baby's windows grow.
